West Virginia University entered into their Big 12 conference career on the arm of Geno Smith.  In a wild shootout, it took 70 points to beat the visiting Baylor Bears.  Here are a few lasting shots of WVU's first ever conference game in the Big 12.  

Big12 Commissioner Bob Bowlsby was on hand to serve as Grand Marshall of the Homecoming Parade, and witness in the new era of Mountaineer football.

 

The Alumni Band preformed with all types of instruments and help.

 

Country Music Superstar Trace Adkins wowed the crowd with a wonderful rendition of The National Anthem.

 

WVU's Darwin Cook makes big plays when the Mountaineers score 70 points, here he intercepts a Florence pass on Baylors first series.

 

Andrew Buie (13) carried the ball effectively for the Mountaineers.  Buie tallied 82-yards on 25 carries including 2 TD's.

 

Geno Smith was protected well on the day, well enough to toss 8 Touchdowns and 656 passing yards.

 

JD Woods (81) had a career day receiving. Woods caught 13 balls for 114 yards and a touchdown.  But he stole the show with his one-handed grab on 3rd down late in the fourth quarter to seal the win.

 

Not to be left out, Joe Madsen's snapping was spot on also.

Mountaineer Josh Francis (4) welcomes Baylor QB Nick Florence to Morgantown.

 

The explosive Tavon Austin finds running room on this Kickoff return. Austin also tallied 14 receptions for 215 yards and 2 TD's.

 

Stedman Bailey (3) gashed the Baylor secondary for 303 receiving yards and 5 TOUCHDOWNS! Here he takes off on his longest of the day, an 87-yard TD.

 

WVU gunner Nick Kwiatkoski (35) sheds the block and makes the tackle on this Mountaineer kickoff.
